Mechanical engineers are uniquely placed to play key roles in wide range of industries: automotive (from the car chassis to its every subsystem—engine, transmission, sensors); aerospace (airplanes, aircraft engines, control systems for airplanes and spacecraft); micro-electromechanical systems, or MEMS (sensors, actuators, micropower generation); energy conversion (gas turbines, wind turbines, solar energy, fuel cells); environmental control (HVAC, air-conditioning, refrigeration, compressors); automation (robots, data and image acquisition, recognition, control); manufacturing (machining, machine tools, prototyping, micro-fabrication).Through clever use of analysis, modeling, design, and synthesis, they solve important problems with good business potential


Mechanical engineers’ familiarity with various mathematical and physical laws and workmanship make them apply their skills and knowledge in multiple areas. They have even been extremely successful with computer applications, IT and software companies. The placements of the students of the department has been exemplary with engineering equipment companies and software companies include the leading Indian and multinational firms. Students aiming for further studies have performed creditably in entrance tests by leading academic institutions.


To constantly improve the learning outcomes the University has put in place:

The students participation in diverse activities on campus and other competitions play a key role in shaping the identity of PES University students. Among the student community one can find keen awareness of leading tech events, knowledge of the wide range of opportunities available and participation in summer programs, internships, boot-camps on current technologies and such activities.


The Department has a track record of organizing prestigious national and international conferences, seminars and symposia on varied subjects. The research activities are driven by: Team HAYA – Formula Racing team- A student team lead is recipient of various awards and nominations, Team AEOLUS – Aero design team, Team ICARUS – Aero Design Team, PACE, Samkaran – Hybrid car project and SAE India Chapter, FPSI Student Chapter


The Department has state-of-the-art infrastructure. The labs include: subsonic Wind Tunnel, Water Tunnel, 200 ton Hydraulic Press, High Velocity Oxy-fuel Spraying Equipment, Grid Blasting Machine, Slurry Test Machine, Air Jet Erosion Machine, Salt Spray Tester, Pin-on-disc Scratch Test Machine, Vicker’s Micro-Hardness Tester, Rapid Prototyping Machine and 100 ton UTM. It is home to the PACE (Partners for Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education) lab, an initiative of General Motors Inc, USA.


The faculty of the department has an impeccable record in research and consultancy. Many funded projects are underway. The faculty regularly gets published in reputed peer reviewed international journals and participates in national and international conferences.
